Awards

Calvin Daack (’21) was awarded a very competitive summer internship at Johnson & Johnson Vision Care in Jacksonville, FL. Over 20 first year optometry students applied – and 10 were interviewed – for the two internship positions. He will be working on a pilot study that will eventually be incorporated into new project development . . . and he is excited about this opportunity: “I became interested in the internship after receiving the email invite from Dr. Henry. I had worked closely with contact lens sales representatives and other people affiliated with the industry before I started optometry school, so I thought it would be a good fit.”

Each year, students at the College of Optometry have the opportunity to apply for many outside scholarships and grants. Often the application process requires a lot of time and creativity.
Peter Jacques (’19) entered the 2018 Vision West, Inc. Scholarship for InfantSEE and was selected as the national winner. He was awarded a $7,500 scholarship for his submission. Jacques wrote a 1,000 word paper that addressed several topics regarding InfantSEE and created a short video which can be found here http://bit.ly/2ErF1Du.
