The College of Optometry at UMSL has introduced a new program to engage alumni with prospective students across the country. As a smaller school the ability to travel to every single institution is impossible, but with the strength of our alumni we can make appearances easier. Director of Student and Alumni Services, Nick Palisch stated, “The idea is to connect our alumni with students who have expressed interest, or schools that are seeking someone from the college to come speak to the pre-health club, pre-med courses, and career days.” Connecting our alumni within their communities is step to enhance the vision of the profession, the college, and the alumnus.
“Alumni are a crucial and noticeably untouched group of individuals who often have time and talent to interact with students within various areas within their communities. If we can provide them with the opportunity to connect we are building a stronger pipeline with prospective students, students who did not even have optometry as a profession on the radar with our awesome alumni,” Palisch said. Giving time and talent is an awesome measure of stewardship that extends beyond monetary donations and a way to keep the profession growing for years to come. “All alumni who are interested in participating in the Alumni Ambassador program can apply via the link below. The more alumni the better. We will find a way to engage you in our recruitment mission,” explained Palisch.
